For the first time in Iraq and the second in the Middle East, today the final round of Iraq Debate Academy Mesopotamia Debating Tournament 13-17 December 2009 in Duhok was finalized with a glorious result for the UKH team. The debater of UKH included Raed Asad, Mohammad Bapir, Sayran Ibrahim and Sarah Salahaddin, students of Politics and International Relations Department.
UKH's final debate was with the American University of Iraq-Sulaimani which came second after UKH. UKH also produced the first best and the second best speaker of the tournament (Sara and Sayran) who both had charismatic presence in their speeches.
This Historic event was made possible by the support of Duhok governor Mr. Tamr Ramazan and it was a joint effort between World Debate Institute( Judges and Mentors/ Dr.Sneider, Matt Standard, Magan Harlow, Mr. Jason and Mr. Jonathan) and Iraq Debate Academy in Duhok. Also the program manager of this event was Mr. Muhammad A. Ahmed did a fantastic job showing genuine hospitality of Duhoki people towards the students who came from different parts of Iraq during their one week stay in the lovely city of Duhok.
The aim of this tournament was to promote dialogue and the civilized way of solving problems and also to celebrate diversity in Iraq as an emerging multi-cultural society.
