JOB DESCRIPTION

Post Title: Library Assistant
Department: University of Kurdistan-Hawler Library Post responsible to: Director of Library

OVERALL PURPOSE:
To assist in the running of the UKH Library service to the students and staff of the University of Kurdistan-Hawler.

MAIN TASKS AND DUTIES:

1. Assisting in the day-to-day operations of the Library Circulation desk, including the issue and return of Library materials on the Library Management System and cash handling.
2. Shelving returned Library materials, shelf tidying and maintenance of the Library System.
3. Assisting in the processing of new Library materials.
4. Maintenance of Library journals systems and archives.
5. Ensuring that the Library is secure at close of service, logging out computers, closing windows and locking up.
6. Dealing with basic information enquiries.
7. Assisting Library users with equipment and photocopiers.
8. Writing handover reports as necessary.
9. Participates in the committees to perform work completion relating to UKH library or other departments.
10. Other duties as required by the Head Librarian.

Person Specification:

1. Good communication and customer relations skills.
2. General experience of computer systems.
3. Ability to work on own initiative as well as working as a team member.
4. Adaptability in working across a range of duties, and the ability to progress to more highly skilled areas of Library work.
5. Library experience, or an understanding and interest in Library services in an academic environment.
6. Have some college education
7. Knowledge of English and Kurdish language both in written and spoken is a must.
8. Work weekends, evenings, or as assigned
9. Ability to travel outside of Hawler or country if needed
10. Be a team player and flexible in a culturally diverse environment
11. Treat all staff, faculty, students, and other library users with respect regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, culture, and orientation.
12. Able to use Microsoft office applications
13. Be literate in use of the internet
