The University of Kurdistan-Hawler would like to announce an opening within our Administrative department. UK-H is seeking (ONE) person to fill the post outlined hereunder:

Post Title: Director of Public Relations and Media

The Role
The Director of Public Relations is a key member of the University Administration reporting directly to the Director of the Resources Division of the University Administration.

The Director of Public Relations is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor and the Director of Resources for the communication of the University’s activities, both internally and externally, in ways which promote, enhance and protect the University of Kurdistan-Hawler's reputation and brand. An important part of the role is to raise awareness and understanding of the University in the local region, nationally and in due course internationally.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Public Relations will, in consultation with the Vice-Chancellor and Director of Resources:

1. develop and implement a PR strategy in line with the objectives of the University and its Departments;
2. liaise with academic and senior administrative staff to identify publicity opportunities and to write and edit effective press and media releases and other written copy materials;
3. develop the UKH brand through regional, national and international PR;
4. deal with media enquiries and develop good media contacts and networking;
5. monitor, evaluate and report on all press, advertising and PR reaction;
6. ensure that UKH’s web pages are of consistent style and presentation, up to date and contain appropriate news of UKH and its activities;
7. establish, organize, and maintain an effective archive to include different PR and UKH media activities;
8. lead in writing and producing regular UKH newsletters;
9. liaise with members of other Universities communications division;
10. advise on promotional and advertising requirements;
11. carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade as appropriate.

Person Specifications:

The Director of Public Relations will have:
1. a university degree in Public Relations or Media studies or a qualification in a field relevant to public relations;
2. at least 3 years experience in a press office, in journalism or in Public Relations work;
3. fluency and excellent written and presentational skills in English Language;
4. a good understanding of local, regional national and international media;
5. a keen news sense and proven skills including in researching stories, drafting editorial for a variety of audiences and writing press releases;
6. excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and assertively with a wide range of people at different levels from UKH staff to journalists, senior levels and professional people;
7. experience of providing input into PR strategy development and implementation;
8. ability to manage a large workload including administrative as well as executive tasks;
9. ability to travel outside of Hawler or country if required;
10. excellent time management and prioritizing skills;
11. ability to stay calm in a crisis;
12. a good team player.
All business operations and teaching in the University are conducted in English.
